Russian Commentary on Pashinyan's Statement about Armenia's Exit from CSTO
It is necessary to wait for an official statement from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the country's decision to leave the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), believes Grigory Karasin, the chairman of the Federation Council's Committee on International Affairs. In an interview with Lenta.ru, the senator commented on the Armenian leader's response to an opposition MP regarding the situation in the CSTO.
“Such statements certainly attract attention, but sometimes they are made in a moment of emotional debate in the parliament. Therefore, we, as partners of Armenia in the CSTO, may need to wait for the prime minister's official statement, otherwise, everything will remain up in the air and create uncertainty, which is very unfortunate for Armenia as a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization,” Karasin said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the republic wishes to withdraw from the CSTO. He noted that the timelines for this decision have not yet been determined.
