Schools and Kindergartens Closed in Greece Due to 40 Degree Heat

A severe heatwave has established itself over much of Greece, with temperatures reaching 43 degrees Celsius in the shade. According to reports from the Greek news platform News247, authorities have proactively closed kindergartens and schools, advising employees of organizations and enterprises to work remotely as much as possible.

In response to the first heatwave of the summer, the leadership of the Ministry of Health has called on healthcare facilities and emergency services to remain on high alert, ready to swiftly and effectively address any issues arising from the extreme temperatures.

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has also urged residents, particularly vulnerable groups, to exercise caution to avoid health problems, including heat strokes due to the high temperatures. Moreover, the Secretariat has published a risk map indicating a very high risk of forest fires for June 11 in the regions of Central Greece, the Athens metropolitan area, and the Peloponnese peninsula.
