Biden and Macron Support Use of Profits from Russian Assets by Ukraine
US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron support the efforts of the European Union (EU) and G7 to seize profits from frozen Russian assets in Western countries. This is stated in a joint statement by the heads of state published on the White House website on June 8.
“The Presidents commit to supporting the efforts of the European Union and the ‘Group of Seven’ to extract extraordinary profits from immobilized Russian sovereign assets for the benefit of Ukraine, in accordance with international law and our respective legal systems and decision-making processes,” the Franco-American roadmap says.
It also notes that France and the US are leading countries in the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (also known as the Ramstein format) and plan to provide long-term assistance to Kyiv within this framework.
