Turkey Issues Warning to the U.S. and Iran
Turkey continues to express concerns over the local self-governance elections taking place in northern Syria, organized by Kurdish forces and their affiliates. Earlier, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that Ankara would not recognize the elections organized by the Kurds in northern Syria.
Turkish media, citing their sources, report that Ankara has conveyed through diplomatic channels to the U.S. State Department and the Pentagon that these elections are meaningless for Ankara and that they will contribute to an increase in tensions in the region.
Turkish media also indicated that Ankara was particularly angered by the State Department's response to the elections, which stated, 'Conditions for the elections have not been created.' Turkish analyst Melik Yiğitler noted that Ankara has also warned various Iranian authorities through internal channels.
