«I Can’t Even Imagine Any Step Back»: Vahan Kostanyan
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vahan Kostanyan, does not see or imagine any step back in Armenia-Iran relations, considering the nature of these relations and the interests both countries have in the region. Kostanyan stated this during a joint session of the permanent committees of the National Assembly discussing the annual report on the execution of the Republic of Armenia's 2023 state budget.
“I can’t even imagine any step back, regardless of the composition of the governments in Armenia or Iran at that moment,” he added.
According to the Deputy Minister, Armenia and Iran are jointly implementing several significant economic and infrastructure projects. “The Islamic Republic of Iran was among the first to welcome the 'Peace Corridor' project, and today they are also involved in bringing the 'Peace Corridor' to life. This pertains to the 32 km stretch of road between Agarak and Kajaran, which is being constructed by Iranian companies. The modernization works at the Meghri checkpoint are also being carried out by an Iranian company. Iranian companies are actively participating in the road construction tenders established by the Republic of Armenia,” Kostanyan concluded.
