South Caucasus Railway Company Reports on Flood Damage Assessment

The railway lines in the Lori region have been damaged in 8 locations due to the natural disaster that occurred on May 25-26, totaling up to 2 kilometers in length. This was reported by the South Caucasus Railway Company, which also noted that 4 power stations and electrical centralization equipment at the stations were flooded, 3 engineering structures were damaged, as well as various voltage transmission lines.

The South Caucasus Railway Company has commenced work since May 26 to assess the extent of the incurred damages and to restore the disrupted infrastructure. Under the leadership of the company’s General Director A. Melnikov, a headquarters has been established to organize the recovery efforts aimed at eliminating the consequences of the damage to the railway infrastructure. Together with specialists invited from the Russian company 'Roszheldorproyekt,' a detailed investigation of all flooded sections is being conducted to determine the volume of work, the technology required, and the quantity of materials needed for the restoration of the infrastructure.

Currently, efforts are underway to dry the electrical substations, and the electrical supply and connections of the damaged stations are being restored. Temporary schemes for the operation of the railway are being developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia.
