My Request is Not to Target the Police: Police Official to Bishop

Bagrat Bishop was unable to meet with the Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan. Narek Sargsyan, the spokesperson for the ministry, came down to speak with those gathered in front of the ministry and said that the minister is currently in meetings and cannot be available, but they can arrange to meet later.

It is noteworthy that Bagrat Bishop had gone to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to demand answers regarding the disgraceful incident that occurred yesterday in Sardarapat, where police obstructed the bishop from ascending to the memorial complex.

The head of the Internal Security Department, Vahik Martirosyan, came down to meet with the bishop and stated that there are more than ten internal investigations and criminal proceedings concerning the actions of police officers, which involve disciplinary violations.

"My simple request is not to target the police. I assure you that all police officers who commit disciplinary violations will definitely be held accountable,” he said.

The bishop noted that there was no need for a call to avoid targeting the police, as they have always approached to wish them good service. “Does beating a person with 30 individuals speak to any part of the work? We are aware of the progress of your internal investigations and the cover-ups,” the bishop said.

The official mentioned that they can follow the process by sending a representative. “Continue with the investigation, and inform us in two days where you have reached,” the bishop said.
