Photographs: The Mother See’s Statement on the Incident Involving Karekin II in Sardarapat

The Mother See has issued a statement regarding the incident involving Karekin II at Sardarapat.

"Following the Divine Liturgy celebrated on the occasion of the Feast of the Holy Martyrs Gayané, His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, visited the Sardarapat Memorial Complex on May 28, the Republic Day. During His Holiness's visit, the condemnable behavior exhibited by police towards the Armenian Patriarch and the clergy, as well as the imposed restrictions and violent actions preventing access to the memorial area, are yet another chapter in the disgraceful and unpatriotic actions of the authorities.

Thanks be to the Lord that despite the violence and restrictions imposed by the police, the Supreme Patriarch raised a prayer before the monument for the peace of the souls of the brave Armenian soldiers who fell in the battles of May. May the Celestial Lord preserve the independence of Armenia unshakably and bless our entire people with a safe and secure life," the statement reads.
