Talks Are Ongoing, But We Do Not See a Strong Desire: Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a press briefing following his visit to Uzbekistan, announced that Moscow does not see a strong desire from Washington to agree on strategic arms agreements. His remarks were reported by RIA Novosti.

“There are talks on this matter (strategic arms agreements - ed.), but we do not see a strong desire. Let's see what happens next,” the president summarized.

Previously, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma's International Affairs Committee, Alexey Chepan, stated that after resolving the Ukrainian crisis, new agreements will be necessary as an alternative to the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty.

In his view, many international organizations are currently working to “rock the boat” in the field of security.

The CFE Treaty was signed in Paris in 1990. In 2007, Moscow announced a moratorium on the fulfillment of the treaty's conditions, as NATO countries had not ratified it.
