We Will Not Forget and Will Not Forgive: Turkey Cannot Move Forward with This, Says Erdoğan

Turkey's President Tayyip Erdoğan has stated the necessity of replacing the new Constitution adopted after the 1980 military coup. The information is reported by TASS.

“The time of coups and military memorandums is behind in this country. The current Constitution undermines trust in politics; Turkey cannot move forward with it,” Erdoğan said during a speech broadcasted by TRT Haber.

Once again, the Turkish president has advocated for the initiative to adopt a new constitution in relation to the ‘Island of Democracy and Freedom,’ located in the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul, where former Prime Minister Adnan Menderes and two of his government ministers were executed following the 1961 coup.

Turkey commemorates the anniversary of this coup on May 27. “We will not forget and will not forgive the traitors not only after 64 years but also for centuries to come,” Erdoğan declared.
