This Approach Creates Real Risks for Civil Conflict: Khachatryan

“In one reality, there is disaster, fallen and injured compatriots in Tavush and Lori, tremendous harm inflicted on the country and many people. In another reality, there is a show-ac tion about the patriotism of the Tavush and homeland 'rescue' movement, homeland, unity, God, sanctity, salvation, blessing, sacredness, and regime change, making attempts in the morning hours to block streets and paralyze the country to the maximum,” wrote Armenian National Assembly member Armen Khachatryan from the ruling Civil Contract party on his Facebook page.

“The Constitution of the Republic of Armenia guarantees the political rights and freedoms of every citizen, including the right to peaceful assembly and demonstrations. However, the implementation of these rights should not severely violate the rights and freedoms of others (the residents of Armenia) as enshrined by the same constitution. The opposition's approach to this 'sacred movement' creates real risks for civil conflicts as well. We must not test the patience of our citizens. To ensure the safety of Armenian citizens and their constitutionally guaranteed rights, as well as to uphold the constitutional order of the Republic of Armenia, the law enforcement system will exercise and will continue to exercise its legally defined powers,” he stated.
