This is Bravery, Sacrifice, It Cannot Be Forgotten: Russian Ambassador to Armenia

Those who do not remember their history and the lessons it offers are taking a serious risk; history strictly punishes those who disregard these lessons. This statement was made by Sergey Kopyrkin, the Russian Ambassador to Armenia, during a press interview after laying flowers at the Eternal Flame in Victory Park in Yerevan today.

According to the ambassador, the events taking place today underscore this point—the lessons drawn from history are still relevant, as we continue to face similar issues, dangers, and threats in many instances.

Kopyrkin noted that many who previously did not fully understand the importance of remembering this day are starting to grasp its significance. “This is the collective great holiday of the Soviet peoples, a unique bravery. I believe we do not exaggerate when we say that humanity was saved from a terrible evil. Why is it important to remember this? Because it is a tribute to our ancestors who fought and sacrificed their lives for this common victory, as well as to those who worked behind the lines. This is bravery, sacrifice; it cannot be forgotten,” emphasized the ambassador.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission highlighted that this victory and its memory are a crucial component of the relations between our countries and peoples. This is our shared history, our common heroism, which unites and will continue to unite our peoples in the future.

“Yes, this is a holiday—with tears in our eyes—but this is a great holiday,” Kopyrkin noted, and he specifically congratulated all veterans of the Great Patriotic War, emphasizing that they are the living history of this great victory.

It is noteworthy that today marks the 79th anniversary of the victory over fascism in the Great Patriotic War.
