Stoltenberg on Deploying NATO Forces in Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has stated that Ukraine has not requested the alliance to send its troops to the country. According to him, Kyiv has requested offensive artillery.
"NATO is not planning to deploy forces in Ukraine. When I met with Ukrainian authorities last week, they did not ask for that," Stoltenberg told Italian journalists, as cited by the ANSA agency.
The NATO Secretary General has previously spoken multiple times about the absence of plans to send troops to Ukraine. In April, he pointed out that NATO countries are providing Ukraine with "significant military assistance" and called for an increase in supplies, particularly of air defense systems.
In recent months, French President Emmanuel Macron has frequently discussed the possibility of sending troops. Following his statements, some NATO countries have declared the absence of such plans, while others have supported the discussion of this issue.
This week, U.S. House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries did not rule out sending American troops to Ukraine.
