Mirzoyan on Upcoming Meeting in Almaty

Armenia expects to discuss the mutual recognition of territorial integrity with Azerbaijan during the negotiations in Almaty. This was stated today by Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a press conference with Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

Earlier, the press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Minister, Ani Badalyan, announced that the negotiations between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan will take place in Almaty on May 10.

"The interest of both countries is to discuss the issue within which both countries will mutually recognize each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty within the framework of the Almaty Agreement," said Mirzoyan.

According to him, the bilateral commissions continue to discuss the details of border delimitation. It should be noted that the border delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on April 19 to begin the delimitation from the Tavush region.

The description of the specified sections of the border will be prepared considering the clarification of coordinates resulting from geodetic measurements in the field, which is expected to be completed by May 15, 2024.

The office of the Prime Minister of Armenia announced that Azerbaijan will end up receiving 2.5 villages, while the Republic of Armenia will achieve a reduction in security risks. A change will be made to a several hundred meter section of the road in the area of Kiran, while Voskepar will not face any road issues.

After the delimitation, armed forces will withdraw from the sections of four villages and will yield their positions to border guard troops. Since April 19, residents of the border villages in Tavush have held protests on the Armenia-Georgia interstate road, opposing the delimitation option agreed upon by Yerevan and Baku.

Despite all this, 35 border posts have already been installed along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
