Putin and Pashinyan to Hold Private Meeting
The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on May 8, where numerous issues are expected to be discussed. This information was disclosed to reporters by Yuri Ushakov, the assistant to the President of Russia.
“Literally the day after the inauguration (on May 8), the President will conduct the first major international event, namely the anniversary meeting of the Eurasian Economic Supreme Council. After that, a bilateral meeting will take place with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, as well as a traditional friendly dinner for the leaders of the CIS countries,” Ushakov stated.
He noted that “this bilateral communication will be quite substantive, and there will be many issues for discussion.”
“Recently, contentious issues have accumulated in the relationship between Russia and Armenia, which we expect will be openly discussed between the leaders,” Ushakov added. “As you know, Pashinyan himself stated in April that relations with Moscow are going through difficult times. Recently, various levels of communication between our countries have significantly decreased. Criticism has been directed at both Russia and the CSTO,” Ushakov pointed out.
