ECHR to Consider Case Against Gevorg Altyunyan

The European Court of Human Rights will soon review another case related to Armenia, involving a criminal case filed against Gevorg Altyunyan, the former head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Armenian Ministry of Defense. This information was reported to NEWS.am by his lawyer.

It is remembered that Gevorg Altyunyan's attorney, Siranush Sahakyan, has submitted an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights, which has accepted the complaint for examination.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee reported that 5 individuals had been arrested for the large-scale embezzlement of 106.3 million AMD through fraudulent actions, using their official positions and committing forgery.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that G. A., while holding the position of head of the Ministry of Defense's Information and Public Relations Department, who was designated as the responsible unit leader for three procurement procedures organized under codes N for the needs of the Ministry of Defense in 2019, 2020, and 2021, allegedly colluded with A. B., the director of the company “El …”, as part of a group, alongside S. A., the director of the public organization “New …”, and the individuals who drafted the procurement applications, K. P., head of the IT department of the Ministry of Defense's Information and Public Relations Department, and A. A., the chief specialist of the same department, to insert clearly false information into official documents and, through deceitful methods, embezzled an exceptionally large amount of 106.3 million AMD from the state during the years 2019-2021.

For the alleged criminal acts committed, on September 15, 2023, charges were presented against G. A. under part 3 of Article 178, point 1 of the former Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, and part 1 of Article 314; A. B. under part 3 of Article 178, point 1 and point 1 of Article 38-314; S. A. under point 3 of part 3 of Article 178 under the former Criminal Code; K. P. under point 3 of part 3 of Article 178 and point 1 of Article 38-314; and A. A. under part 1 of Article 38-314.
