Surens Petrosyan Released from Detention Center
Surens Petrosyan was released from the detention center and was greeted with applause. Notably, at 20:00 this evening, the 72-hour period for which Surens Petrosyan had been detained was set to expire.
YEREVAN, April 26 – Sputnik. Surens Petrosyan, the leader of the 'Democratic Alliance' party, who was arrested in Tavush province, has been released from the detention facility. It is important to note that this evening at 20:00 marks the end of the 72 hours of his detention, and no further detention request could be filed against him, as the 60-hour timeframe had already passed.
Citizens gathered near the detention center welcomed Surens Petrosyan with applause. “I am feeling very well; during this time, new thoughts and ideas emerged, and it will be much better now. The allegations against me have no relation to me. I have been far removed from that place, and there is video evidence. I had no connection to any of this,” he stated.
Surens Petrosyan's lawyer, Varazdat Harutyunyan, also mentioned that Petrosyan's connection to these incidents has been clearly refuted, in his opinion. Up to this point, the investigating body has also disproven that suspicion. However, this does not mean that the case is closed. “At any moment, Surens Petrosyan could be charged,” he stated.
