Aliyev: There Are Very Good Opportunities to Achieve Peace
We highly appreciate the ongoing peaceful negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a joint press conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz of the Federal Republic of Germany.
According to him, "there are very good opportunities to achieve peace."
“The development of German-Azerbaijani relations is of great importance for the development and stability of both our countries and the entire South Caucasus. Regarding regional security, we highly value the ongoing peaceful negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Mr. Chancellor, at your invitation, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia recently met in Germany. The German Foreign Minister Mrs. Baerbock has also expressed her support. The next meeting will take place in Kazakhstan. Thus, we are taking additional steps towards the signing of a peace agreement.
As a result of the ongoing process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the delineation of borders has begun. We have returned 4 Azerbaijani villages that were "occupied" in 1990 and 1992. I must also inform you that this morning, the joint Russian-Turkish monitoring center located in Azerbaijan has ceased its operations. This means that there are very good opportunities to achieve peace. We are ready to cooperate with countries that wish to assist us in this matter. We hope that positive steps will be taken in this direction in the near future. We particularly appreciate and are grateful to Germany for their support in this area,” said Aliyev to Scholz.
