Armenia Has No Territorial Claims Beyond 29,743 Square Kilometers, Says Nikol Pashinyan
Stable and long-lasting peace will allow us to spend our resources at least not to this extent and invest the remaining funds in addressing our countries' socio-economic issues. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with British media.
“It is true that this year we have made significant progress in terms of gross domestic product per capita, but there are still numerous social issues in both our country and Azerbaijan. And when peace is achieved, it will enable the governments of both countries to invest in socio-economic development, and secondly, at some point, we can think about regional economic developments as well,” he noted.
Pashinyan also emphasized that within the context of regional economic development, they have adopted and implemented the “Crossroads of Peace” initiative, which he hopes the audience is familiar with. “Our thoughts are directed in that direction. I mean, we are not preparing for war; we are preparing for peace. But on the other hand, as long as we are not convinced that the Republic of Armenia will not be subjected to attack, we must naturally develop our defense capabilities.
Moreover, I have stated that Armenia has no territorial claims beyond 29,743 square kilometers – not to the south, not to the west, not to the north, and not to the east. We believe that on this basis, we should build and develop our sovereignty and independence,” Pashinyan declared.
