‘It’s Nonsense, Such a Thing Cannot Happen’: Serzh Sargsyan
In 2006, the denial or downplaying of genocide was punishable under the Criminal Code in Armenia. This was stated by the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, during a conversation with reporters at the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex, addressing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's use of the term 'Great Catastrophe.'
Regarding the authorities' statements about clarifying the names of genocide victims, Sargsyan remarked, 'It’s nonsense, such a thing cannot happen.'
