Under Whose Pressure Did Israel Refrain from Delivering a Broader Retaliatory Strike Against Iran? NYT
Israeli authorities have refrained from delivering a broader retaliatory strike against Iranian military sites under pressure from the US and other allies, reports the New York Times, citing three anonymous Israeli officials.
“Israeli officials initially discussed striking several military sites inside Iran last week, including facilities near Tehran,” the newspaper states.
According to the report, Israeli Prime Minister was persuaded against a large-scale response by US President Joe Biden, as well as the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom and Germany, resulting in Israel carrying out a “more limited” retaliatory strike last Friday.
The newspaper notes that a larger Israeli assault would have increased the likelihood of a major regional conflict.
According to US media, on Friday night, Israel carried out a “limited” retaliatory strike against Iranian targets.
