There is a Very Real Risk that Ukrainians Could Lose by the End of 2024: CIA Director

The director of the CIA, William Burns, has warned American lawmakers that if they do not approve assistance for Ukraine now, Kyiv could lose the war by the end of the year.

According to Burns, as reported by "Європейська правда," his statements were quoted by Politico. Speaking at an event at the George Bush Presidential Center, Burns urged Congress to pass an additional bill allocating billions in military support to Ukraine.

"With military support, both practical and psychological, Ukrainians are fully capable of enduring throughout 2024 and dismantling Putin's arrogant notion that time is on his side," he stated.

However, Burns warned that if the assistance does not pass through Congress, "the situation will be much worse." He further noted, "There is a very real risk that Ukrainians could lose on the battlefield by the end of 2024 or, at the very least, put Putin in a position where he can essentially dictate the terms of a political settlement."

The publication emphasizes that Burns' remarks could be the strongest warning regarding the war in Ukraine from a senior representative of the U.S. administration. This comes at a time when officials in Kyiv are warning that Russia's offensive operations this summer could result in a significant influx of Russian troops entering Ukraine.
