On the recommendation of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), UNESCO has marked April 18 since 1983 as the International Day for Monuments and Sites. The aim is to raise humanity's awareness of cultural heritage and to make necessary efforts towards the preservation and promotion of monuments.

“Across the globe, the importance of monuments is being recognized through various events. Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani state regime, which has occupied Artsakh, is destroying cultural values that are part of the planet's cultural heritage right before the eyes of the world. The entire cultural heritage located in Artsakh is at risk of destruction and appropriation. On this international day, we once again raise the alarm that daily, world civilization is being annihilated in Artsakh. If concrete actions are not taken, the planet will be deprived of exceptional cultural values,” warns Azerbaijani studies expert and cultural ombudsman of Hayk, Hovik Avanesov.

Earlier, we reported that Azerbaijanis are demolishing the Ghazanchetsots Cathedral in Shushi.
