Photos: Azerbaijanis are demolishing the Ghazanchetsots Church in Shushi

Azerbaijani Telegram channels disseminated photos on April 15 showing the "restoration" of the Ghazanchetsots Church of Shushi, stating that work has resumed and includes the renovation of the roof and damaged walls. This was reported by monumentwatch.org.

According to the site, the photos reveal that the Azerbaijani side has demolished the cross-shaped window on one of the gable sides and the icon above it. The Ghazanchetsots Church features a similar cross-shaped window and icon on each side. The sculpture on the western facade depicted the theme of "Crucified Christ" with relevant inscriptions.

During the 44-day war, the southern side of the church was also damaged due to Azerbaijani bombardments, including the cross-shaped window. This is clearly visible in photos taken as early as October 2020. Thus, the direct destruction and alteration of the church's details are evident, which has been reflected in the so-called restoration from the very beginning.
