Russia Can End Ukraine Conflict 'Today': G7
The foreign ministers of the G7 countries have announced that Moscow could end the Ukraine conflict "today." This statement was made following a meeting of the G7 foreign ministers in Italy.
According to the authors of the statement, Russia "can end" the Ukraine conflict "today." At the same time, G7 foreign ministers reiterated their demand for Russia to withdraw its forces from territories that the West considers Ukrainian, despite referendums in which the majority of residents expressed support for reunification with Russia.
Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. President Vladimir Putin described it as "the defense of those people who have suffered mockery and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years." He noted that the special operation is a forced measure, stating that "Russia has been left with no other options, as the risks in the field of security have created circumstances that do not allow for a response by other means." He emphasized that Russia has tried for 30 years to reach an agreement with NATO on principles of security in Europe, but in response has faced either cynical deception and lies, or attempts at pressure and blackmail. Meanwhile, the alliance continues to expand relentlessly, moving closer to Russia's borders despite Moscow's protests.
