Tonoyan to Remain in Custody as Court Rejects Motion

The former Minister of Defense of Armenia, Davit Tonoyan, will continue to remain in custody. The information was disclosed to Sputnik Armenia by his lawyer, Andranik Manukyan, who noted that two motions had been submitted.

"The Anti-Corruption Court rejected the motions to change the measure of restraint for Tonoyan and to lift the restraint altogether," he stated. The defense team plans to appeal to the Court of Appeals.

Recall that on September 30, 2021, the National Security Service announced that Davit Tonoyan and Davit Galstyan, who was involved in arms supplies, were arrested on suspicion of committing particularly large-scale theft. On the same day, both Tonoyan and Galstyan were placed in custody.

In this case, charges have also been filed against former Chief of General Staff Artak Davtyan, former Deputy Chief of General Staff Stepan Galstyan, head of the Aviation Department of the Ministry of Defense's aviation technical property service Artyom Hambaryan, and Chief Engineer of the Aviation Department Vladimir Babayan.

Stepan Galstyan was released in December 2023 after posting a bail of 25 million drams.
