The West Views Armenia as a Tool to Play With and Then Abandon: Zakharova

Earlier, Yerevan publicly assured that the development of cooperation with Western countries is not directed against third countries. Considering this combination of factors, we expect the Armenian authorities to respond clearly to the emerging information, and ideally, renounce it. In any case, the question is about official Yerevan. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a question about how she would interpret the information emerging after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's meetings in Brussels on April 5 regarding certain agreements in the military-political sphere.

At the same time, the journalist did not specify what kind of so-called military-political agreements are being referred to.

“At the same time, we would not be surprised if it turns out that the programs outlined in the document ‘Building Armenia’s Defence and Security Resilience,’ which envisage the replacement of Russian border guards by specialists from the USA, EU, and NATO, the expansion of diversion activities against Azerbaijan and Iran at the border, as well as the reorientation of Armenia’s critical infrastructure and energy system, including the dismantling of the Metsamor nuclear power plant, were indeed imposed on Yerevan by representatives of the USA and EU during the high-level meeting in Brussels on April 5,” Zakharova said, without providing any examples from the document she mentioned.

“It is obvious that both Washington and Brussels aim to sever the entire chain of relations between Armenia and Russia, both in security and economic spheres, and to disrupt the mechanisms of regional security and economic cooperation based on the CSTO and EAEU. The West is, as we understand, trying to create a rift among their closest neighbors: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Russia, and Turkey. No matter how beautifully they speak about maintaining peace in the South Caucasus, Armenia is only assigned the role of a tool through which the USA and the EU want to start a new major fire.”

This is what the United States and collective West have learned to do. They do not know how to establish peace, they do not know how to resolve issues, they do not know how to stop the bloodshed. They only know how to incite, poison, and undermine.

It is naive to think that the aforementioned Western measures will somehow strengthen Armenia’s defense capacity, enhance its border security, and ensure its economic prosperity. Quite the opposite, they want to deprive Armenia of everything national: national defense, national economy, national energy, in exchange for obviously impossible roadmaps, paper plans, and endless demagoguery. After doing all this and solving their conjunctural issues, the Westerners will leave Armenia just as they have done many times before in various corners of the world,” Zakharova stated.
