Sergey Lavrov and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian Hold Telephone Conversation

On April 14, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian held a telephone conversation, according to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the call, the situation in the Middle East was at the center of the partners' attention. The Iranian Foreign Minister informed his Russian counterpart about the measures Tehran has taken in response to the Israeli airstrike on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus on April 1, which resulted in the deaths of Iranian officials.

It has been reported that the further escalation of the situation in the region and new dangerous provocative actions could lead to an increase in tensions in the Middle East. Preventing such scenarios and addressing their root causes should be a special priority for the UN Security Council.

Both parties confirmed their positions in favor of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, addressing urgent humanitarian issues, and creating strong conditions for direct negotiations in accordance with UN resolutions regarding the two-state solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict.
