Video: Mass Evacuation in Orenburg Due to Flooding
The Mayor of Orenburg, Sergey Salman, has announced that a mass evacuation is being conducted in the city due to severe flooding.
“An alarm is sounding in the city. This is not a drill. A mass evacuation is underway. The flood situation in Orenburg is extremely dangerous. Over the last 10 hours, the water level in the Ural River has risen by 40 centimeters, now reaching 1143 centimeters. These levels are dangerous,” Salman wrote on his Telegram channel.
The mayor urged residents to evacuate the Grand Park residential complex, Kuibyshev and Solnechnoye districts, and the 23rd and 24th micro-districts, as well as residents from Uralskaya and Donguzskaya streets, Aviahorodok, and Ovchinnye cities.
“Bring your documents, medications, essential items, and leave your homes immediately. The situation is critical; do not waste time,” he added.
An emergency regime has been in effect in the Orenburg region due to flooding since April 4. The situation in Orsk has worsened, where a dam broke on the evening of April 5. The water level in the Ural River in Orenburg exceeded the dangerous threshold of 930 centimeters on the evening of April 9. As of the morning of April 12, 4,963 plots of land and 2,687 household plots have been flooded in Orenburg, with 995 plots and 361 houses flooded in the last day alone.
