VIDEO: There Should Be Scientific Evidence from the Other Side - Avinyan on Tree Cutting

After a protest against tree cutting in Yerevan, no scientist has presented any opinion or counter-argument to the Yerevan municipality. This was stated by Armen Begoyan, director of the Community Greening and Environmental Protection SNCO, during a procedural meeting of the Yerevan municipality.

"Moreover, a discussion was initiated at the National Academy of Sciences, which involved various agencies. The main point that was raised there was that the poplars should be removed from Yerevan," Begoyan said. He noted that replacing the poplars would take 10-20 years, considering their large number.

Mayor Tigran Avinyan emphasized: "In order for the discussion not to remain at an amateur level, there should be scientific arguments from the other side. If the other side does not have a scientific approach, then it is merely emotional and amateur discussions." Avinyan stated that the trees being replaced have indeed lost their functionality.
