Armenia to Host 14 Various Sporting Events Over the Next Three Years, Says Karen Giloian

The World Weightlifting Championship in 2027 will take place in Armenia. According to the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Karen Giloian, this event is of great importance.

“Since the European Weightlifting Championship, when we evaluated what we have, we understood that there has been exceptional treatment, and the championship itself was extraordinary. A vivid testament to this was the filled stands, which unfortunately we did not see at the championship held in Bulgaria, where only one bus of people attended,” Giloian remarked.

He emphasized that sports are for the fans, and the presence of supporters is crucial in Armenia. “It will not be easy until 2027. We are set to host 14 various sporting events over the next three years, including final competitions in some sports games. In the last two years, Armenia has seen as many high-level competitions as there have been in 70 years of the Soviet Union and 27 years post-Soviet,” he noted.

The International Weightlifting Federation has made the decision to grant Armenia the rights to host the 2027 World Championship.
