A shark attacked a Russian tourist in the Maldives. The incident occurred near Nunu Atoll, where the predator suddenly struck and bit the vacationer's leg. The man suffered serious injuries and required surgery. A lengthy recovery period is ahead for him.

The victim was a guest at the luxurious 'Mövenpick' hotel, which immediately distanced itself from the visitor and denied any claim regarding the shark attack. 'We have nothing to comment on, as we have not received any reports of a shark attack on a person,' said hotel representatives.

Interestingly, shark attacks on humans are quite rare in the Maldives, despite the fact that 11 species of these predators, including tiger and great white sharks, can be found in the waters surrounding the islands.
