Mairapetyan on Court Decision to Seize Billions in Funds from Him

Businessman Samvel Mairapetyan is convinced that the current authorities in Armenia are not forgiving him for not providing the expected false testimonies. He stated this to Sputnik Armenia while commenting on the Anti-Corruption Court's decision to seize over 4 billion drams from him and Gagik Hakobjanyan, the director of Globus LLC, in favor of the Armenian government.

He does not consider it a coincidence that the ruling was announced this morning, coinciding with Prime Minister Pashinyan's visit to Brussels.

"The ruling was supposed to be published back on March 20, 2024, but the court decided to reopen the hearing under the pretext of clarifying circumstances essential for resolving the case. However, on April 1, the designated date for the court session, the necessary questions were not clarified for the court, and inexplicably, the date for the ruling was set for April 5. It can be assumed that this was done to showcase PR results on the day of Pashinyan's visit to Brussels. It turns out that the authorities control not only the content of the ruling but also decide on the date and time of its publication," he stated.

Mairapetyan is confident that no amount will be compensated to the state budget by this ruling, as he believes the process is illegal. "It will definitely be appealed in all possible domestic and international courts," the businessman emphasized.

It is worth noting that Mairapetyan was arrested on August 8, 2018, and subsequently detained. He was released in December of the same year. Later, in February 2019, it became known that he had undergone surgery in Germany. On October 21, the Investigative Committee reported that Mairapetyan's health deteriorated at the airport, preventing him from coming to Armenia. In March 2020, he was declared wanted.

Mairapetyan is accused of evading substantial taxes through document forgery.
