If People in Tavush Are Deprived of Their Homes, Will It Be a Violation of Human Rights? Ombudsman Responds
The issues surrounding the protection of human rights in border communities are in the focus of the Armenian Human Rights Defender's Office. This was stated by Armenian Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan during a press briefing, responding to the question of whether the potential deprivation of homes for some individuals during the delimitation in Tavush could be considered a violation of human rights.
"Any violation of individuals' rights will be problematic from the perspective of human rights protection; the question is who is responsible for that violation of rights. The issue of identifying responsible entities is a bit different, as it implies that a sufficient and comprehensive analysis and study of the issue should occur," she said.
According to Manasyan, the Human Rights Defender's annual report dedicates a significant section to the issues of human rights protection in border areas, documenting all rights violations, some of which are due to the presence of Azerbaijani armed forces.
The Ombudsman emphasized that Armenian state authorities must take concrete actions to prevent or overcome these violations affecting the population.
