What Underlies Azerbaijan's Latest Provocation According to a CP Deputy
Azerbaijan's latest provocation is connected to the meeting scheduled for April 5 in Brussels between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. This was stated by Armen Khachatryan, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Defense and Security and a member of the CP faction, during a press briefing in the National Assembly.
“Azerbaijan's behavior is not new to us. It spreads false information that on April 1, the Armed Forces of Armenia fired at Azerbaijani positions located in the southwestern part of the border area with the aim of creating legitimate grounds for an attack. This primitive manipulation by Azerbaijan is not a surprise; if it was successful one or two years ago, it is not anymore, as EU observers provide an objective reality to the world within hours, showing that Azerbaijan is lying once again,” said the deputy.
According to him, Azerbaijan is currently not seeking peace but is doing everything to thwart it, while Armenia is unequivocally moving in that direction and will compel Azerbaijan to embrace peace.
In the deputy's view, Aliyev makes aggressive statements for his domestic audience, which is characteristic behavior for a dictator. “In this way, he tries to present himself as a strong leader, a tough guy, but experience and history show that this does not last long. I am confident that the day will come when they will think long and hard before making words and actions against Armenia and perhaps they will choose not to act,” he emphasized.
Today, according to him, the actions of the Armenian authorities are balanced, especially in the context of the demarcation process. It results from the fact that the military balance between the two countries is so disrupted that Armenia does not wish to go to war today.
