EU Responds to Lukashenko's Statement on Preparing for War

The European Union is taking "precautionary measures" to be better prepared for potential threats, but it does not intend to attack anyone, as it is not an "aggressive union," said Peter Stano, a spokesperson for the EU’s foreign policy service, commenting on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's remarks about "preparing for war."

Earlier, Lukashenko stated that Belarus is preparing for war, but Minsk does not wish to engage in conflict. According to him, the necessary preparations of relevant units are underway, and various types of weapons and equipment are being supplied to the troops. The Belarusian leader emphasized that Minsk does not pose a threat to anyone.

"We do not need to threaten anyone. We do not want foreign land; God willing, we will develop what we have," said the Belarusian head of state.

"The EU poses a threat only to those who violate the rights of their citizens, human rights, democracy, and respect for international law. The EU is not an aggressive union; no one should be afraid of the European Union, except those who violate and do not respect international law... The EU has been taking precautionary measures for some time now, starting from Russia's aggression against Ukraine; we are making the EU better prepared for any threat," Stano said in response to reporters' requests to comment on the Belarusian leader's statements.
