Another Armenian Church Put Up for Sale in Turkey
The Armenian St. Astvatsatsin Church located in the Sivas (Sebastia) province of Turkey has been put up for sale, according to Ermenihaber.
It is reported that the abandoned church after the Armenian Genocide of 1915 has become the property of a local named Hatice Akay, who has decided to sell it and has contacted a real estate agency.
The real estate agent said in an interview with the Turkish news agency "DHA" that there are no obstacles to the sale of the church. "There is a title deed, and there are no obstacles to the sale. The church is a 1st degree protected area and is under protection. As of today, we have put it up for sale, and we are asking for 16 million lira (about $500,000) for it."
It should be noted that the church is located in the village of Goyduyn and was built in the 19th century. It was registered in 2012 as a cultural property requiring 1st group protection. The Armenian church, built with stone, features carved images of crosses on its inner and outer walls.
