What a Shame: France Outraged by Defense Minister's Remarks on Ukrainian Armed Forces
The leader of the French "Patriots" party, Florian Philippot, has criticized Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu's promise to supply tanks and missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces on social media.
Earlier, Lecornu announced that Paris intends to provide hundreds of old armored vehicles to Kyiv. Additionally, Lecornu stated that he plans to transfer more Aster 30 surface-to-air missiles to Ukraine as part of the French SAMP/T air defense system.
“This is unacceptable. This morning in the Tribune newspaper, Minister of Armed Forces Lecornu announced that France will supply 'hundreds of tanks and missiles to Ukraine,'” he wrote.
According to the politician, this supports war and destroys his own country. Philippot also added that all of this is happening at a time when the French are being asked to tighten their belts.
“What a shame. No more weapons and not a single cent for Ukraine. Peace negotiations, quickly,” he urged.
Russia believes that supplying weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces hinders resolution efforts and directly involves NATO countries in the conflict. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that any cargo containing arms for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for the army.
