Floods in Kazakhstan: Over 500 Homes Submerged, Evacuations Underway
In seven regions of Kazakhstan, located in the country's west, north, and northeast, over 500 residential homes and buildings have been inundated due to flooding. This information has been reported by the press service of the country’s Emergency Situations Ministry, as relayed by Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Currently, 439 private residences, 334 auxiliary constructions, and 75 summer houses remain submerged across the seven regions mentioned. These regions include Aktobe, Akmolinsk, Kostanay, West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, and Pavlodar.
The evacuations conducted by civil protection services have affected nearly 6,000 people, including almost 2,000 children. Temporary accommodation points have been established, where about 3,000 citizens are currently sheltered, having lost their homes to the floods.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations has also noted that due to road inundations, 26 localities across the seven regions have been cut off from transportation links.
Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov has tasked the Prosecutor General with conducting an investigation into possible negligence by officials that may have contributed to the widespread flooding in the regions. The Prime Minister remarked that these floods are among the most extensive seen in recent years.
