Latvia's Foreign Minister Resigns: The Reason Revealed
Latvia's Foreign Minister Krisjanis Karins has resigned, and he will leave his post on April 10. This information is reported by the portal rus.lsm.lv. According to the report, the head of the republic's foreign affairs office announced his decision after a meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina.
The Saeima (parliament) will vote on the candidacy for the new Foreign Minister on April 11. According to the portal, the minister's resignation is related to a scandal involving high costs associated with flights for the Latvian delegation and Karins himself for participation in European Union conferences. These expenses were funded by state and EU budgets and have become the highest compared to other countries.
The country's Prosecutor General's Office has launched an investigation, which will later be handed over to the Bureau for Prevention of Corruption and Fight Against Corruption.
Karins was appointed as Foreign Minister in September 2023 and previously served as the Prime Minister of the Baltic Republic from 2019 to 2023.
