Why Official Yerevan Pretends Not to Understand the Issue is a Major Question: Zakharova
The meeting scheduled for April 5 between Armenia, the EU, and the US is raising concerns in Moscow, as Washington and Brussels openly discuss its anti-Russian orientation. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. The information was reported by TASS.
“In Washington, Brussels, and Yerevan, there is a deliberate confusion as to why the high-level meeting on April 5 is causing anxiety for many. They insist that it is not aimed against any third party. Such events are alarming in Russia because representatives of the US and the EU directly tell our partners that their main focus is exclusively against Russia. They state this plainly,” she wrote on her Telegram channel.
According to the diplomat, such meetings cause concern among many countries in the region because they are aimed not at achieving peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but at “the West's further involvement in the South Caucasus with its extremely destructive approaches, the creation of new dividing lines there, forcing regional countries to follow an anti-Russian agenda, and the destruction of their longstanding ties with Moscow, as well as undermining existing mechanisms of regional security and economic cooperation.”
“Why official Yerevan pretends not to understand what is at stake is a major question. After all, Armenia is being transformed before the eyes of the world into an instrument for implementing extremely dangerous Western collective projects that are completely contrary to the radical interests of the Armenian people,” Zakharova concluded.
