Discussion on Amendments to the Constitution's Preamble Has Not Yet Taken Place: Minister of Justice

Mariam Z.

Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan commented on the amendments to the Constitution following a report on the implementation and results of the Government's program (2021-2026) for 2023 during a press conference with journalists in the National Assembly.

According to him, the Prime Minister has introduced new ideas for public discussion. “We have a preliminary new concept that we have sent to the Government; now we are waiting for the meeting between the Prime Minister and the committee, as well as the Constitutional Council, after which we will present through public awareness whether amendments have taken place in our directions and what we plan,” he said.

According to the minister, there has been no discussion on the preamble of the Constitution yet. “Apart from the previously discussed section, there have not been any other discussions, and as a result of ideological considerations on what new directions we intend to pursue, the Council for Constitutional Reforms will present to you. We are conducting internal work. Currently, we are performing internal monitoring and analysis on the articles in which we have identified issues, but the Council for Constitutional Reforms has only convened once, and we have decided to discuss the Prime Minister's proposals,” added Grigor Minasyan.

He assured that the issue of constitutional reforms is not in a suspended state, but taking into account the Prime Minister's public speech, they will synchronize further work with the situation.
