VIDEO: "I do not rule out that they will attack, and why wouldn’t they?" - Alen Simonyan
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, has stated that the issue of handing over any village in Armenia is not under discussion. "We are currently searching for those who believe that this is Armenian territory. I am searching for those people to come and prove that it is Armenian territory," he said, referring to the topic of the return of areas adjacent to Tavush, which are under Armenian control.
“The Republic of Armenia can show its territory meter by meter,” he added. Simonyan reaffirmed, “No part of the Republic of Armenia’s territory is up for negotiation.”
Speaking about the likelihood of war, Simonyan said, “I do not rule out that they will attack. And why wouldn’t they? They have openly said so.”
Simonyan also reminded that discussions about a corridor have been ongoing for two years, saying, “Why did we not make any concessions or take any steps regarding that, because it is clear that it is in our jurisdiction zone.”
He mentioned that for the Armenian side, it is also acceptable for the demarcation and delimitation to begin from Tavush. “What we want is to establish a border; in those places where Azerbaijan is ahead, naturally, the Azerbaijani troops should withdraw in a mirrored manner, and this should happen along the entire border. Where Armenia is ahead, Armenia should withdraw,” he added. When asked if this would be a simultaneous process, Simonyan stated that he is not privy to the details but indicated, “It should be within the framework of the same process.”
