Construction of NATO's Largest Base in Europe Begins in Romania

Construction has begun on NATO's largest base in Europe, located in Romania, which is designed to accommodate 10,000 troops. This was reported by Euronews.

The project is estimated to cost €2.5 billion, covering an area of 2,800 hectares. The base is situated in the Constanța district, near Romania's port on the Black Sea.

The base's infrastructure will be built on the existing NATO Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base. The new base will feature runways, weapon platforms, hangars for military aircraft, as well as schools, kindergartens, shops, and a hospital.

According to Romanian expert Dorin Popescu, the decision to build the base was made in light of the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, which he described as a long-term situation. Currently, around 5,000 military personnel are stationed at Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, the majority of whom are Americans.
