Azerbaijanis Destroy Memorial Dedicated to Freedom Fighters from Getavan Village

In the fully depopulated Artsakh, Azerbaijani vandals continue to destroy memorials and monuments dedicated to the heroes who fell for the homeland. This was reported by cultural ombudsman of Hayq, expert on Azerbaijan, Haik Avanesov on his Facebook page.

“This time, the target of Azerbaijan’s cultural genocide is the memorial complex dedicated to the freedom fighters from Getavan village who perished in the Artsakh War in the Martakert region. The unveiling of the monuments took place on September 7, 2016. According to Article 4 of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, any act of vandalism, theft, looting, appropriation, hostility, or reprisal towards cultural heritage is prohibited. The first protocol of the Hague Convention of 1954 forbids the destruction of cultural or spiritual values in occupied territories,” he wrote.
