Russian Central Election Commission Website and Other Official Portals Targeted by Large-Scale Cyberattack on Election Day

On the first day of the Russian presidential elections, the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia, the state services website, and other portals faced over 90,000 cyberattacks. This information was reported by Igor Lyapunov, the head of 'Solar', a subsidiary of 'Rostelecom', as conveyed by RIA Novosti.

“Certainly, there were many large-scale attacks and attempts on our resources yesterday; more than 90,000 cyberattacks were directed at the election portal resources, the Central Election Commission, remote electronic voting sites, and state services resources,” said Lyapunov, emphasizing that this figure exceeds the number of cyberattacks recorded on election day last year by eight times.

“Rostelecom” also noted that the attacks originated from Ukraine, Western Europe, and North America. Reports indicate that all these attacks were successfully repelled. Additionally, there are reports of the blocking of more than 100 similar official portals, including the CEC’s official site and several others.
