The Agenda for Preventing Genocides is Among Armenia's Priorities, Says Foreign Ministry
The agenda for preventing genocides remains among the priorities of Armenia's foreign policy. Armenia actively collaborates with international partners in this direction. This was stated by the Armenian Foreign Ministry in response to Sputnik Armenia's written inquiry about what the agency is doing to promote the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
The Foreign Ministry emphasizes that every year on December 9, International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime (established by a resolution presented by Armenia to the UN General Assembly in 2015), various conferences and discussions are organized in Armenia and abroad.
“On December 4, 2023, in accordance with the aforementioned resolution, an intersessional discussion was held in Geneva dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide, during which the subject of the discussion was the spread of hatred through the use of social media platforms. The event was opened by the Armenian Foreign Minister,” the statement read.
Additionally, the Foreign Ministry specially highlights that Armenia presents the "Prevention of Genocide" resolution at the UN Human Rights Council every two years.
Yerevan is also the initiator and organizer of the global forums against the crime of genocide, which took place in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2022.
“In 2024, the 5th Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide is planned to be held. Currently, the concept of the two-day event is being developed,” the Foreign Ministry responded.
The Foreign Ministry assures that Armenia's diplomatic and consular bodies abroad organize and participate in events and commemorative ceremonies dedicated to the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
