Azerbaijanis Destroy Memorial Dedicated to Fallen Soldiers of Artsakh Liberation War
Azerbaijanis have destroyed the memorial dedicated to Armenian soldiers who fell in the Artsakh Liberation War, located in the village of Tzar in Artsakh, and have removed the 1224 stone cross. This was reported by the "Scientific Research Center of the Cultural Heritage."
“Photos that have appeared on the internet show that the renowned 13th-century cross-stone in the village of Tzar is no longer in its place. Our ongoing monitoring and searches regarding the physical condition of the cross-stone have been unsuccessful. Given Azerbaijan's policy towards Armenian cultural heritage, it is likely that this unique example of Armenian cross-stone art has been destroyed,” the statement reads.
It is worth noting that the cross-stone culture is a distinctive expression of Armenian cultural heritage, the art and symbolism of which were recognized and included in UNESCO's list of “Intangible Cultural Heritage” in 2010.
