Georgia Offers Platform for Yerevan-Baku Dialogue, Deputy Minister Says
Georgia is interested in the development of the peace treaty signing process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and offers its platform for negotiations to its reliable neighbors. This was stated by Georgia's Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalian during a diplomatic forum in Antalya.
According to him, it is important for Tbilisi to ensure peace in the region, and the Georgian side hopes that Yerevan and Baku will reach an agreement from which both sides will benefit.
Darsalian noted that Georgia sees, understands, and takes into account the certain difficulties present in the bilateral negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. To this end, Tbilisi had previously proposed an initiative for peaceful coexistence and offered its support for the two countries to engage in negotiations.
“It is evident to us that we must maintain cooperation (referring to the three countries of the South Caucasus) and not leave our arena to outsiders,” said Darsalian.
He emphasized that there is no alternative to peace in the region; therefore, Tbilisi supports the talks and the establishment of stability in the South Caucasus.
The Deputy Foreign Minister also reminded that Tbilisi is interested in the development of traditional strategic relations with Ankara and Baku. “A few months ago, we refreshed our relations with Armenia, elevating them to the level of strategic partnership, and we believe that this will make a significant contribution to the cooperation process in the region,” he said.
The Deputy Minister also touched upon the communication programs being implemented in the region, highlighting the opportunities in the area and the prospects for the development of the “Middle Corridor.”
