Azerbaijan Sells Russian Gas to Europe Through Its Pipelines: A Fact, Says Alen Simonian
“Azerbaijan sells Russian gas to Europe through its pipelines; this is a fact,” stated the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, during a press briefing.
He highlighted that the allied Russia has long ceased to assist Armenia. “At best, it does not support us, and at worst, it is involved in a joint process. I am confident that there is a joint process that has been underway for a long time, and I believe that the war in Ukraine began with the Nagorno-Karabakh war. Alternative routes should have been explored to avoid possible sanctions, which Azerbaijan is currently doing by selling Russian gas to Europe through its pipelines.”
He did not rule out an agreement between Russia, Azerbaijan, and also Turkey: “No one should be surprised that Armenia is trying to maintain its independence, and in this plan, the Armenian people had a role, having elected the government in 2021 that, according to the plan, was supposed to be replaced by a new authority so that we could join the union. This has been the plan.”
According to Simonian, Armenia's concern is about Azerbaijan's actions against its sovereignty. “The Armenian people, make no mistake, acted in 2021: they solved a geopolitical issue through their election. Whether knowingly or perhaps not, they executed a major geopolitical plan.” He emphasized that the plan was to integrate Armenia into the Russia-Belarus Union, which ultimately failed.
When asked if Armenia had officially received such an offer, Speaker Alen Simonian replied, “No, that’s not how it’s done. They create such a situation that the new government would say, ‘well, it’s the previous ones who are to blame,’ which means that in this case, we are. There is no longer any security solution available other than becoming a member of the Russia-Belarus Union.”
